Predicting the 53: Post-Training Camp

Now that the Bills have broken camp and that preseason is halfway done, it was time for another round of predicting the 53.  There are a few changes from the initial look at the roster to this time, but let’s dive right in.

*Players listed in no particular order*

QB (4*): Nathan Peterman, AJ McCarron* (will not count against the 53), Josh Allen, FA QB

  • OUT: None
  • IN: Free Agent QB: The Bills will need to add a quarterback now that McCarron will be sidelined for the start of the season.

RB (3): LeSean McCoy, Chris Ivory, Marcus Murphy

  • OUT: Taiwan Jones
  • IN: Marcus Murphy.  He has had a great preseason and having him make the team seems like a no-brainer at this point.

FB (1): Patrick DiMarco

WR (7): Kelvin Benjamin, Zay Jones, Jeremy Kerley, Ray-Ray McCloud, Andre Holmes, Corey Coleman, Rod Streater

  • OUT: Malachi Dupre
  • IN: Corey Coleman  The Bills will want to keep Coleman around just because of the pure talent that he possesses.  I still don’t see fan favorite Brandon Riley making the team.

TE (3): Charles Clay, Nick O’Leary, Logan Thomas

  • OUT: Keith Towbridge
  • IN: Logan Thomas.  For his skills as a blocker, I think they keep Thomas around.  Nick O’Leary is rumored to be on the roster bubble too, but he is coming off of a great game in Cleveland last night.

OL (9): Dion Dawkins, Vlad Ducasse, Ryan Groy, John Miller, Jordan Mills, Russell Bodine, Wyatt Teller, Marshall Newhouse, De’Ondre Wesley

  • OUT: Gerhard de Beer, Conor McDermott
  • IN: Marshall Newhouse, De’Ondre Wesley.  Both of these players had a strong camp, even getting some reps with the 1’s.  Wesley had a rough night last night, though.  I’m not sold on this offensive line, I’m not sure anyone is…

CB (6): Tre’Davious White, Vontae Davis, Taron Johnson, Phillip Gains, Lafayette Pitts, Levi Wallace

  • No changes here

S (4): Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer, Siran Neal, Rafael Bush

  • No changes here

LB (6): Lorenzo Alexander, Tremaine Edmunds, Matt Milano, Tanner Vallejo, Ramon Humber, Keenan Robinson

  • No changes here

DE (4): Jerry Hughes, Trent Murphy, Eddie Yarbrough, Shaq Lawson

  • OUT: Someone not named Shaq Lawson
  • IN: Shaq Lawson.  In my first 53-man roster prediction, I claimed that I did not believe Shaq would be on the opening day roster.  Well, a nagging groin injury to Trent Murphy and an impressive camp by Lawson has been good news for his immediate job security, although I do not think he will be on this team past the trade deadline.

DT (4): Kyle Williams, Star Lotulelei, Harrison Phillips, Adolphus Washington

  • No changes here, but the injury to Williams might cause the Bills to add another player here depending on the severity.

ST (3): Stephen Hauschka, Colton Schmitt, Reid Ferguson

  • No changes here.

What are your thoughts?  After seeing these guys in action in Cleveland do you agree with my second roster prediction?  Let me know in the comments below!
