Five games into the 2023 season and the AFC remains muddied up. The top two teams are clear: the Chiefs and Dolphins. The bottom two teams are clear: the Patriots and Broncos. Everyone else has either 3 or 2 wins, and are waiting to establish themselves as a contender along with Kansas City and Miami, or possibly waiting to fall into the depths of the Conference with New England and Denver. These next three weeks should provide some clarity in the AFC and for the Buffalo Bills.
AFC Standings
- Kansas City 4-1
- Miami 4-1
- Pittsburgh 3-2
- Jacksonville 3-2
- Indianapolis 3-2
- Baltimore 3-2
- Buffalo 3-2
— - Cleveland 2-2
- LA Chargers 2-3
- Houston 2-3
- NY Jets 2-3
- Tennessee 2-3
- Las Vegas 2-3
- Cincinnati 2-3
- New England 1-4
- Denver 1-4
First, how great is it to see New England at 15? Things are a hot mess over in Foxborough right now and I would be lying if I didn’t say I was enjoying every minute of it. The Bills are clinging to the 7th and final playoff spot after their loss to Jacksonville last week. When healthy, the Bills might be the best 3-2 team in the conference, but for now they are behind the others in the overall standings, mainly because of their 2-2 conference record.
Next three games:
vs. Giants (Sunday Night Football)
@ Patriots (Sun. 1pm)
vs. Buccaneers (Thursday Night Football)
Three weeks from now the Bills should be 6-2 with the Giants, Patriots, and the Buccaneers on the horizon. Given their quick pair of losses this year, it is essential for them to take care of these next three “light” games on their schedule before the schedule ramps up in November and December. If they are able to do that, they will create some distance between them and the rest of the middle of the conference, as they try to work themselves back into the discussion with Kansas City and Miami for the top team in the AFC.
