Back in 2020, I took a look at the Buffalo Bills’ record by uniform combination since changing colors from navy blue to royal blue and switching from a red helmet to white helmet. Since debuting the new uniforms and helmet in 2011, the Bills have played in 202 total games. Back in 2020 when I looked into this, the Bills were wearing grey facemasks with their white helmets. Since then the Bills made a change to using the white facemasks, which has dramatically improved their look. For simplicity purposes, these records are broken down using two options: jersey color and pant color. I have combined the records regardless of facemask color and regardless of sock color. When the Bills rolled out their new look in 2011, they wore actual socks with striping pattern. Over the past decade, the team (and most NFL teams) have all but discontinued their sock option and have seen the players wear single color compression stockings. While the Bills will sometimes wear their uniforms with different sock options (either blue or white socks) once again, I have combined the data to only reflect jersey and pant color. Let’s work our way down from the best record to the worst.
Color Rush (Red Jersey/Red Pants)
7-2 (.778 winning pct.)

The Bills have worn their color rush 9 times since their inception in the 2015 season. It is their most successful uniform combination. An interesting note here, the Bills have not lost while wearing their color rush jerseys since 2019.
Throwbacks (Standing Buffalo/White Jersey/White Pants)
9-3 (.750 winning pct.)

It is a question on whether or not the Bills have discontinued the throwbacks from their set, as the team did not wear them during the 2022 season. It is a set that the team has had great success in, and you have to go back to 2018 to find the last time they lost in them. Without a new red-helmet throwback this season, it would be nice to see this uniform back in action, as it is universally accepted as one of the best throwbacks in the league.
Blue Jersey/Blue Pants
16-8 (.667 winning pct.)

Once reserved for one or two games a year, the Bills wore this combination a whopping 10 times in 2022. It is safe to assume that this has overtaken the gorgeous and classic blue over white look as the team’s default home combination. To drive the point home even further, Josh Allen has been featured wearing this combination in commercials this summer, and on the cover of Madden 24. Get ready to see this “Smurfs” set early and often once again this year, starting Monday night against the Jets.
Blue Jersey/White Pants
41-29 (.586 winning pct.)

This combination has been worn more than any other since 2011, in 70 of the 202 games played. During the 2020 and 2021 seasons, the Bills were 11-2 in this uniform. Last year the team only wore this look twice and were winless in those two games. You have to go back to the “Perfect Offensive Game”, the 47-10 AFC Wild Card thrashing of the Patriots to find the last time the Bills won while wearing what once was their signature blue over white look.
White Jersey/White Pants
19-28 (.404 winning pct.)

This look was plagued by losses in the early to mid-2010’s, but it is slowly working it’s way back to a respectable record. The past three seasons the Bills are 10-3 while wearing them, including 3-0 last year. The look that has been dawned “The Stormtroopers” and “Icy Whites” are one of the best looks in the league, especially with the change to a white facemask two years ago.
White Jersey/Blue Pants
14-26 (.350 winning pct.)

Statistically, this is the worst Bills uniform combination since Nike released blue pants for the Bills in 2012, one year after the uniform overhaul of 2011. In 2022 the Bills wore this set twice, winning both games. After the 2020 season it looked like this was going to be the Bills primary away uniform, as they wore it six times that year; more than any other jersey. Since that season they have only worn it two times in 2021 and two times in 2022.
There you have it, everything you need to know about the Bills six uniform combinations leading into the new season. As I mentioned, the Bills have played 202 games in their current look. Of those 202 they have won 106 and lost 96. Refer back to this article throughout the season if you are interested in the statical history of the uniforms as they are announced every Wednesday by the Bills.
